Sales

Sales form only a small part of our business and therefore our sales area is small. In our shop we have a limited range of serviced TV, Video & HiFi. We tend to specialize on providing high quality refurbished goods which should last a good few years in normal use. As we check over goods for sale before putting them on the shop floor the likelihood of failure is slim. Sadly due to the work involved our prices may be a little higher than some of our competitors, however we don't expect our customers to have a pile of scrap six months down the road. We are also able to offer longer guarantees sometimes in excess of 2years depending on the price paid for the goods (Roughly add £10 per each quarter year required onto the standard free three/six months given).

 Service

Our primary service is concentrated on the service and repair of cassette decks, porta studios and video recorders. It is our opinion that much of the HiFi especially cassette decks from the eighties and early nineties is the best in terms of build quality. Whilst the modern stuff may give a slightly less background hiss the modern budget deck is mechanically extremely poor by comparison.

This sad development makes it worthwhile spending £50-£60 servicing your old deck. Parts can be a problem at this age but we have managed for most cases to source similar products which can be used to good effect eg. heads, motors, pinch rollers and belts. We expect a properly serviced older deck to function at least as long as a new one. (typically 1000 hours)

Video recorders are in a similar situation. We have found that most VCRs made after about 1994 are generally not economic to repair unless the fault is minor. About 80% of older VCRs are usually worth repairing up to about £85 depending on the general condition and features.

Charges

It is impossible to know the cost of repair until we see the item and the following is only a rough guide.

Service above usually includes replacement of main belts, cassette motor(standard type) if req. clean idlers (VCR replace) clean/replace pinch roller, cleaning of tape path and cleaning of reel spindles if readily accessible. It must be stressed again that these are only rough guides to mechanical service and may vary greatly. Some items it is possible to do a REPAIR ONLY this costs less but is not recommended. eg a belt on a cassette deck may have broken, to replace costs say £35 a service costs £55. If the belt has reached snapping point then it is likely other parts may fail soon so we recommend a full service.

Our minimum charge is £30, a minimum deposit of £10 is payable before work starts. Sometimes a fault may be very simple like dirty head of fuse in these cases we usually charge a reduced rate of £15.

We also repair TECHNICS SL1210s and PORTA STUDIOS and sometimes other Audio. We only repair TVs sold by us.
